Bus Service

There are three bus trips to local shopping centres each week.  The service is provided by a contracted independent mini-bus company and is available to residents ONLY.

Before using the service you must read and accept their Code of Conduct for passengers and sign a Consent and Indemnity form before making your first trip.

Getting on and off the bus
Ideally, you should be sufficiently mobile to get on and off the bus on your own. The driver is not allowed to assist you (for Health & Safety reasons), although help will be provided to load and unload your purchases. However, by prior arrangement, and if a seat is available, you may bring your carer to assist you. The carer travels at no charge.

Missing the bus!
If you are late getting back to the bus the driver may not be able to wait for you. In that case, the driver will immediately notify Village management who will urgently take steps to locate you and arrange for you to be collected.

Laundry Service

A laundry service is available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 08:00 to 15:00. Laundry may either be deposited at the Midcare reception desk in a laundry bag (clearly labelled) or picked up using the door-to-door collection/delivery service.

Current prices for collection/delivery and for each service (cost/ kg) are available from the Laundry.

Garden Service

As part of the services covered by the monthly levy, private lawns are mowed and trimmed free of charge once a week in the growing season and as required during the winter months.

Other garden work is the occupier’s responsibility. However, a Village gardener may be booked (subject to availability) on a once-off or regular basis. Current time slots and prices for this service are available from Reception.

Kitchen levy: Each household pays a compulsory monthly ‘kitchen levy’ of R600. (This appears on the monthly levy statement as a separate line.) In return for this monthly levy,  each household is entitled to R600-worth of meals at no charge. Additional meals are for the resident’s own account at the prices shown below and displayed on the monthly menu.

  • Sunday and Wednesday Roast – R65 (dessert included)

Ordering meals
: A printed menu is supplied to each household in good time before the beginning of each month. From this, residents make their choices and enter them – the whole month or a few days at a time – into the ordering system through a touch-screen terminal* in the Lifestyle Centre. Each household has a special tag which opens their personal pages on the screen. Meals must be ordered at least 24 hours in advance; prior to this cut-off choices can be altered if needed. The system is very simple to use, but the catering staff are always happy to help first-time users and any other residents whenever required.

Paying for meals: Once the R600 ‘levy’ meal allocation is used up, further funds can be loaded into the system by presenting a credit or debit card to a member of the catering staff. By prior arrangement, off-site family members who handle a resident’s finances may pay by EFT. Note that no meals can be provided on credit.

Meal options: When ordering meals on the touch-screen computer the options are:

  • Served as a sit-down lunch in the Restaurant (from 12 noon until 2 pm)
  • Collected from the Restaurant refrigerator
  • Delivered (for a small fee

Fine Dining
every Tuesday evening: specially prepared 3-course meals served in a cosy ambience between 6 and 7 pm (though the socialising goes on ‘til late!). Sherry is served, but diners bring their own drinks. The meal choices (and prices) are published in the monthly menu. Friends and family welcome!

Monthly Party Time evening – supper and entertainment at a modest charge.
