The Berm is an area along our Western boundary wall just South of the river. It is a huge mound of soil that was constructed by J’burg Water to support a major sewer pipe. It was crumbling quite badly and we persuaded J’burg water to stabilise it. They did a surprisingly good job by installing gabions all around the mound. This however left a rather stark edifice than needed some vegetation to cover it. The area also presented itself as a potentially very nice additional walking area which would complete a loop around the Village. As it was, the rough track was totally unsuitable for anybody other than those who were sure footed. We started by installing paving. This was followed by the incredible dedication of one of our residents who, with the assistance of a gardener, totally transformed the area into what it is today. This series of photos shows the striking before and after transformation of this area.
